"I am very pleased with your program. It is just what I have been looking for on the net for ages. There is nothing approaching the high quality your product offers out there. Congratulations on a highly pleasing program"

Problem1:

I am getting an 'Automation Error' message when starting the recorder.

Cause: This error is caused by the VU meters within the recorder not being able to access the soundcard. This is usually caused by another application already accessing the soundcard.

Solution: Please ensure no other products are running which access the soundcard, this includes applications which reside in the system tray. Also ensure you unplug your webcam as this may also be accessing the soundcard.

Problem 2:

The recording does not sound as good quality as the realtime sounds or cannot be heard.

Both these problems are caused by the soundcard being currently configured to record from another source other than the 'all sound' channel. It is most likely that the soundcard is currently set to record through the microphone channel resulting in a poor quality / blank recording.

Windows controls which source a recording application uses as it's input and this needs to be configured correctly. The steps below will show you how to correctly configure the recording channel to record from applications.

If the steps below do not work for you, please update your soundcard drivers as this will often add in the required 'all sound' recording channel. ( Soundcard manufacturers are updating drivers for Vista on an ongoing basis ) and repeat the steps.

Open Control Panel In Classic view, go to Sound

Go to the Recording tab. If you only see "microphone" and/or "line-in", right-click anywhere in the blank white area of the window to display the Show Disabled Devices context menu.

Select Show Disabled Devices:

If Stereo Mix, Wave-Out Mix, Mixer, Wave, What U Hear ( or something similar ) is visible then right click on that entry and choose enable:

To make this newly enabled device the default recording device, highlight it and click the Set Default button, or right-click on the device and select Set as Default Device.

The correct recording channel is now set. Please note you may still need to adjust the recording level by clicking the 'Properties' option.
